Salary Negotiation Tips Salary Research for Specialized Areas
Salary Negotiation Tips Salary Research for Specialized AreasSalary Negotiation Tips Salary Research for Specialized AreasHow can I find out the salary range for a niche area of expertise?Q My question is compensation related. I work in a specialized area within the asset management industry and am having a very difficult time finding out what my peers compensation range is. I have tried to contact McLagan but they cannot provide any guidance as my company has hired them as consultants. I have asked around on social networks via industry groups that I am a member of and also through my network of contacts, all have turned up unsuccessful. Do you have any other suggestions for how I can find out what the average compensation levels are for my particular job?A Congratulations on doing all the research youve done so far - youve gone beyond what most people would. One suggestion would be to conduct your own salary survey. Get lists of names of people doing your kind of work in noncompet ing areas. Contact those people and tell them youre doing a salary survey. Tell them that in exchange for their participation, you will be glad to send them a summary of the survey once its completed. Make sure you have an up-to-date LinkedIn profile so they can check your veracity. It will help to establish your credibility and create a level of trust. Not everyone will participate, but you could find that people would in exchange for the information. Best of luck to you.

Take Your Kids to Work Day Always a Risky Business
Take Your Kids to Work Day Always a Risky BusinessTake Your Kids to Work Day is a Risky BusinessTake Your Kids to Work Day Always a Risky BusinessThis year, Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day falls onThursday, April 22. If your workplace is planning something for the day, youre probably filled with equal parts excitement and fear. Will it be a wonderful opportunity to strengthen the parent-child bond and impressyour colleagues with the fine young citizen(s) youre raising? Or will your kid puke on the carpet, unplug the server, and make rude comments about yourcoworkers? For most of us, its a crapshoot. Given the wide variety of workplaces, theres no single agenda for Take Your Kids to Work Day. Certain occupations dont even invite this kind of participation. If youre a medical examiner, a proctologist, or a fighter pilot, for example, you should probably just explain your job in kid-friendly terms, and maybe show them where you work, but not let them give it a try.fruchtwein off ice-based jobs are suitable for kids, and many companies schedule events and activities for employees children. In this article, 5 Steps to a Perfect Bring Your Child to Work Day, author Katherine Lewis points out that it can be a great chance to show your kids what you really do, since many children believe mom and dad just play on the computer and talk on the phone all day long. She also points out that the younguns will be delighted by many of the things you probably consider mundane, such as commuting, getting a cup of coffee, or taking a lunch break. (And can anything match the thrill of pushing elevator buttons?) Here at, weve been planning a special morning that includes interactive projects, pizza with the CEO, and cookie decorating. And just for fun, well also be recording some video interviews with the kids.

How to Write a Winning CV
How to Write a Winning CVHow to Write a Winning CVTo CV or not to CV? That is the question well, at least it is for some. If you are pursuing a career in academia, science or possibly a role abroad, knowing the what, when, why and how of a Curriculum Vitae can be essential. Here are some tips to compose an effective CV.What is a CV? A CV is an overview of a persons experience and academic hintergrund for the use in a job application. The CV captures your professional and educational credentials and history in a chronological order. It is reviewed by a hiring authority as an initial step in the hiring process to determine if someones background merits an interview. Why use a CV and how does it compare to a resume? Andrei Kurtuy, a resume and CV writing expert, identified a key difference in a blog he authored in February as static versus dynamic content. A resume should be customized to each role and displays qualifications that are of interest based on a specific role. It should be similar to a marketing document that communicates value related to a specific audience. A CV, on the other hand, is static. It is a historical document that consistently reflects the same background regardless of the role. Here are some additional ways the two documents differ Work experience in a CV is typically listed in chronological order while resumes are usually in reverse chronological order. The goal of a CV is to show a comprehensive, detailed progression a resume emphasizes relevant experience done most recently. CVs do not face the same pressure to be one to two pages. They are comprehensive documents that use as much room as is needed to properly cover your background. Finally, resumes err a bit more on the stylized side these days with color and other formatting tactics to add visual interest. CVs, on the other hand, do not require the same emphasis on creative styling or formatting. They should be easy to read, well-organized and well-written.When do I use a CV and when do I use a resume? A CV is the brand standard for many zwischenstaatlich roles. If you are looking to apply for a position abroad, chances are the request will be for a CV. Domestically, careers in academia or higher education and sciences often ask for a CV. Frequently, a job application will request one or the other. If you are uncertain, it is always OK to ask what is preferred. How do I create a CV? Gather details of your education, academic achievements, research, publications, awards, affiliations and employment history. You begin the document with contact information and follow with academic credentials starting with highest level degree earned first. Next, list your research and work experience in chronological order (unless directed to list differently). Other qualifications to include are skills, training, research, dissertations, teaching experience, publications, presentations/speaking engagements, grants, fellowships, awards and honors. You should also add any professi onal licenses, certifications or memberships.Remember that a CV is professional correspondence, so it merits meticulous editing and review. Be sure to use proper grammar, punctuation, formatting and pay close attention to consistency in layout and style. The use of bullet points versus complete sentences and paragraphs can be very effective in managing attention and minimizing extra content. You can also create an addendum to support very long lists of publications, speaking engagements or awards if needed. It is also important to avoid including any prohibited information based on the hiring laws in the geography where you are applying. For example, omit age, ethnicity, marital or family status and salary information for any roles in the United States. Also, reserve names and contact information of references for when it is requested. There is no need to include references on your CV.In summary, a well-written CV gives a comprehensive overview of how your background and qualificatio ns make you an ideal candidate for a role. To write a good one, first gather and organize all relevant materials. Next, create a well-written, well-edited document with an easy-to-read format. And finally, submit your CV on a timely grund and possibly through a referral to get the process started for your next role in higher education, scientific research or abroad.

Will the Future Still Need You How to Ensure It Does
Will the Future Still Need You How to Ensure It Does Will the Future Still Need You How to Ensure It Does While Gatess and Hawkings pronouncements did leid send the world into paranoiac chaos, it isbedrngnisiceable that no one laughed. This is because most of us have already seen evidence of worker replacement by computer programs and robots, and so most of us have smelled the smoke, even if we have not yet seen the fire. The fact that these two visionaries werent derided by the media makes me believe that the mainstream is now ready to enter the debate about the impending workplace revolution. So, what exactly is going to happen in the workplace? According tothis study from the Oxford Martin School at the University of Oxford University,47 percent of jobs are at risk for computerization, which means human workers will be replaced in whole or in parte by computers in some form. This isnt fantasy or baseless prediction this is going to happen. Jobs in the areas of transportation, logi stics, and office and administrative support are especially at risk. Most of you will have noticed that in many supermarkets, there are more self-service tills than human cashiers. 3 Ways to Help Your Fellow Introverts Succeed at Work
3 Ways to Help Your Fellow Introverts Succeed at Work Getting ahead and thriving in your career isdifficultenough for anyone, but research suggests it may beespeciallyhard for introverted workers. According to a recent study out of Australia, introverts tend to predict mora negative outcomes for themselves than their extraverted counterpspecieses do. This consistently gloomier outlook can hinder their climb up the corporate ladder.Nothing is set in stone, of course. Introverts may face a unique set of obstacles, but at the end of the day, they have the same chance at career success as extraverts. In fact, their introversion may evenbe an asset that allows them toexcel in leadership roles provided they know how to beschirrung it.Clinical psychologist Laurie Helgoe, PhD, is the author of Introvert Power Why Your Inner Life Is Your Hidden Strength. Shebelieves the journey to career success for introverts begins with embracing their nature, rather than ap ologizing for it.Often, when an introvert makes the first move and shares their experiences and their preferences not in an apologetic way, but just a clear way naturally, other introverts will breathe a sigh of relief and say, Im not alone, and they will gravitate toward that person, Helgoe says.Having a strong support system can go a long way in boosting an introverts confidence and creating more opportunities forthem to prosper in the workplace. Heres how office introverts can help one another excel in their careers1. Tackle Networking TogetherIf youre an introvert, large networking events may be your personal nightmare. Still, considering that as much as 85 percent of all critical jobs are filled via networking, introverts really cant afford to pass up networking opportunities. It may not be your favorite part of professional life, but think of it as planting the seeds for building wealth through every stage of your career.Introversion itself creates discomfort with a lot of s ocial interactions primarily because its overstimulating, Helgoe says. We introverts process things internally and like to take in little bits of information from the outside at a time.Overstimulated or not, introverts can still shine in networking environments if they form groups and encourage one another to attend industry events together. This team effort can provide the kind of support system introverts often need to feel most comfortable.Helgoe suggests introverts give each other homework, like tasking one another to do light research on the influencers youre all looking to network with. This will give each member of the group something more meaningful to talk aboutwith new connections at the event. As introverts, we hate small talk and are compelled by ideas, not just the presence of people, Helgoe says.Knowing someones interests beforehand can help you connect on a deeper level right away, instead of forcing you to act like an extravert and partake in simple pleasantries. Addi tionally, Helgoe recommends looking for ways tobreak apart from the crowd and connect with people in one-on-one settings. That way, youre bringing your comfort zone with you and operating out of your strengths, she says. For more professional success tips, check out the latest issue of Recruiter.com Magazine2. Get Creative With How You Manage Office RelationshipsExcelling in your career often involves creating and maintaining meaningful professional relationships. The trick for introverts is cultivating office relationships in a way that feels natural. Helgoe says this may involve taking the menu of social options and peppering in some introvert-friendly activities.Case in point Everyones heading to happy hour after work to blow off some steam, but hitting up a crowded bar isnt exactly how you connect with others. Add your own social event to the menu by suggesting a casual coffee date or jog with a coworker for the following day. This way, the extravert option is no longer the only option. Introverts can also consider cohosting other, smaller social events that feel less intimidating.3. Root for Each OtherTeaming up with other introverts lays the groundwork for mutual accountability. For example, ahead of an upcoming office meeting, introverts can encourage each other to bring one piece of advice or something relevant to share with the group.Knowing someone has your back and is excited about your contribution can help ease anxieties around speaking up.Helgoe also suggests askingfor the agenda ahead of time, if possible, so that youll have the chance to think through what you want to contribute.Introverts can also support each other in mastering the art of negotiation. See if your fellow introverts would be interested in doing a dry run to help prepare you for an upcomingconversation about a pay raiseor title change. But make sure the benefits are mutual Share your experiences, positive and negative, to help others feel more comfortable when confronted with a s imilar challenge. The main takeaway here is that introverts dont have to navigate their professional lives solo. Establishing a support system of like-minded folks can alleviate some of the pressure youre feeling and help you move through your career with greater confidence, knowing a group of colleagueshas your back.Marianne Hayes is a longtime freelance writer and content marketing specialist.
